Donna Brunsdale
Donna Brunsdale (~1965– ) is a photographer, filmmaker, writer, and actor based in Calgary, Alberta. In 1989, Brunsdale completed a BFA in Visual Art at the University of Victoria, and in 1991, earned a MFA from York University. Her early photographic work explored landscapes and documented the mundane and overlooked aspects of life in Canadian cities. Brunsdale’s photographs were shown in two solo exhibitions at Mercer Union in 1998 and Or Gallery in 1995, respectively titled Mountains and Ambivalencia. In 2015, Brunsdale co-produced Flexie! All the Same and All Different with Gary Burns, a documentary on the life of landscape painter Levine Flexhaug. Her film credits include performances in the Suburbanators (1997), Waydowntown (2000), A Problem with Fear (2003), as well as directing credits for Cheerful Tearful (1999) and writing credits for A Problem with Fear (2003) and Man Running (2018). Brunsdale also has held teaching positions at the University of Calgary and the University of Victoria in film and media studies.
